CHARM Test Mine measurements

Sandvik conducts varying sensor tests in the Test Mine (Tampere, Finland) to identify new sensing capabilities tolerant to harsh environmental effects such as heavy dust or mist. One of the latest tests was conducted in collaboration with the participants of the ECSEL CHARM consortium, where automotive radar data together with an optical lidar data was being recorded by driving around with one of our research platforms in the lower mining level. The required data was utilized in research with a few objectives, such as to study the capabilities of radar-based localization [1], and object detection and classification from radar data.
